According to Mount Vernon Deputy Police Chief Roy Hastings, the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday as the Bronxville man was traveling westbound on West Grand Street toward the station and approached the traffic stop.
"He said he could not remember if he stopped or just went through," Hastings said. "From the looks of it, it seems he hit the gas because the train station is directly in front of where he was."
Hastings said the man was not injured, but did complain of pain from the airbag and had a small cut on his hand so police had him transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
Trains from Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line were delayed for about 15 to 20 minutes. All were back on schedule by 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
